Definitely nice to break my bowl cherry last nite. Bowl season is different mentally as there is a fair amount of time to stew between losses like I had to after Wyoming went down last Saturday. Seems to give the next game, like the one last nite, a 'must-win' feel to it.

At this point, I will end this thread and start a Part II Bowl Season thread.

Regarding the Poinsettia and Las Vegas Bowls:

Both games set up almost identically in that you have superior, large favorites whose motivation may be called into question, esp TCU if you ask me. Boise St doesn't seem prone to a letdown even in situations such as this that call for them. La Tech will definitely come to play and I have absolutely no idea what to expect from ASU, though I think having Erickson on the sideline is a good thing.

As such, since I can make a case for both teams in both games, I will PASS both of these bowls. At this point, I would simply 'lean' to both underdogs and maybe I'll have some beer money on one or the other, or who knows, both. Or maybe not.

Tonite, during the Poinsettia Bowl, I will be delving into the Hawaii Bowl matchup. See Gar already on the 'dog which is how I lean without much research. Will post thoughts in the new thread once I have something semi-intelligent to say.

I just reviewed the play by play of the 3rd and 4th quarters of the Rose Bowl last year. For TCU backers it was an absolute horror show. Frogs set up in a nice field position on two critical drives and never converted. Doesn't often happen that a team can outscore their opponent in both halves and still fail to cover 2.5

TCU is a program that always leaves me wanting so much more whenever I watch them. I feel like Patterson programs them to do just enough to win, but never blow anybody out.

I may end up being the only person in the world on Utah State. :( Although sometimes that works out nicely... I'm just pissed at the line move, down to 1.5 now. If this game goes like that TCU-Wiscy horseshit did last year, I'm gonna kill myself.

New Mexico Bowl:

Wyoming +7 over Temple (1/2 unit)

The 7 finally popped back and this should close at 7 or maybe a little less. Wyoming has been a hard trying team all year and HC Christenson's success as a dog is well documented. Owl rush attack v Poke run defense is one obvious concern here. As long as I do not get the same effort Wyoming gave v Utah St, think I should be in this till the end with Wyoming QB Smith leading the way. Altitude edge for Cowboys as well, obviously.

Regarding the other two bowls on Saturday:

New Orleans Bowl, San Diego St v Louisiana Lafayette, PASS
SDSU is the better team but all the intangibles favor ULL, inc the fact the Aztecs are taking proctors with them to New Orleans so that they may conduct finals remotely. It should be ULL fans close to 100% as well.

Humanitarian Bowl, Ohio v Utah St, PASS
Initially was all about the Aggies but this game has been reduced to a toss-up for me. Bobcat QB Tettleton is a dynamic player while the Utah St run game is very formidable. See both teams successfully moving the ball. Every Aggie game seems to go to the wire and I am going to just let this one go. I like both coaches as well, so I can't point to an advantage there either. If some one could point to an edge on defense for either team, I could get interested again. Till then, got nothing here.

St Petersburg Bowl:

Marshall +4 over Florida International (Heritage) (about .8 unit)

Playing a little early for my tastes but this has gone to 3' at both Greek and more importantly, CRIS. Despite having spent very little time on this game, I can't imagine not betting it, so the only dilemma was how much to put on it. Decided to go with what should be my total amount for this game.
